Troy Davis executed in Georgia after the U.S. Supreme Court denied his final appeal

After deliberating for about three hours, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the final appeal of Troy Davis to cancel execution last night.

Davis attorneys entered its final appeal to U.S. Supreme Court around 6:30 pm on Wednesday night, just 30 minutes before it was originally set to be sentenced to death. As a result, Davis execution was delayed for over three hours.

Pending a decision, hundreds of peaceful protesters remained camped outside the Georgia Diagnostic Prison in Jackson, Georgia, the number of police officers present continued to increase.

The final decision was issued around 10:20 pm and was received in silence.

This was the fourth time that Troy Davis faced his death. In 2007, he received a stay of execution the day before he was scheduled to die. In 2008, both in the U.S. Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals was spared for a time after that less than 3 hours before he was to be carried to the camera, and once with three days to spare.

Troy Davis was pronounced dead at 23:08 EST on Wednesday, September 21, 2011.
