Cantaloupe Recalled After Listeria Outbreak - VIDEO

A farm in Colorado is recalling cantaloupes sold this summer in order that they may be contaminated with Listeria, a deadly bacteria.

Jensen Farms in Holly, Colorado, announced Wednesday the recall is "prudent" because "Colorado said ... that people have a high risk of infection should not eat all of Rocky Ford cantaloupes growing region. "The recall includes cantaloupes were sold between July 29 and September 10.

Neither the Food and Drug Administration or the Department of Public Health and Environment Colorado confirmed that the cantaloupes Jensen farm was the source of the outbreak who is ill and killed consumers in several states .

Jensen Farms officials were not immediately available for comment.

Eleven of the disease in Colorado, one in Indiana, one in Nebraska, one in Oklahoma and two in Texas are linked to the listeriosis outbreak and the contaminated cantaloupes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The 11 illnesses in Colorado include death, said spokeswoman Lola Russell CDC.

The outbreak could be higher than that, though. New Mexico State officials say they believe in many illnesses and deaths due to melons contaminated with listeria bacteria in the back of the same multi-state outbreak, but officials at the CDC and FDA say these allegations have not been established yet.

Jensen Farms, said the recalled cantaloupe, sent in Illinois, Wyoming, Tennessee, Utah, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas, New Mexico, North Carolina, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
