WASHINGTON - wife of assassinated U.S. president John F. Kennedy ignored the French leader Charles de Gaulle, Indira Gandhi and India, according to recently released a taped interview.

Interview with Jacqueline Kennedy, recorded months after the murder of her husband in 1963 and first distributed by ABC News, including his frank assessment of world leaders and their time in the White House.

"De Gaulle was my hero when I married Jack," says the historian Arthur Schlesinger, referring to her husband by his nickname, in a tape broadcast by ABC News on Tuesday.

But when she met the French leader personally during a visit in May 1961, shortly after Kennedy took office, she found de Gaulle of being "so full of spite," and broke the French general.

"I hate the French ... They are not very pleasant, they are all for themselves," she said.

His criticism came despite the fact that he had studied at the Sorbonne, at the age of 20 and able to speak French well.

De Gaulle was not only world leader who has angered Jacqueline Kennedy. It describes Indira Gandhi, the future Prime Minister of India, as a "type bitter, aggressive woman, horrible."

At one point, reveals that she told her husband that the U.S. civil rights icon Martin Luther King was a "false".

Recorded interviews of Jacqueline Kennedy - who died in 1994 without having to write memoirs - published by his daughter Caroline Kennedy to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the start of the presidential term of his father.

The transcripts were published in a book this month entitled "Jacqueline Kennedy:. History of talks on the life of John F. Kennedy" ABC News has released the tapes of this week.
