Herman Cain Florida Straw poll win
By MICHAEL D. COURT
ORLANDO, Fla. - Herman Cain, former CEO of Godfather Pizza, won the poll of Florida today, defeating second, Rick Perry, governor of Texas after the activist group working with a breakfast speech am on Saturday.

Mr. Cain won nearly 40 percent of the 2657 people who voted, more than double the total of Mr. Perry and Mitt Romney, who finished a close third.

All candidates spoke to the crowd of Florida Republicans who gathered here for the Coalition of Faith and Freedom and the Conservative Action Conference rallies.

But Romney, former governor of Massachusetts, left the state early Friday for events in Indiana and Michigan, effectively telegraphing his campaign did not put much importance on the outcome.

Mr. Perry remained in Florida until Saturday morning and hosted the breakfast for conference delegates. Perry's Victory in the poll could have helped blunt criticism that has been building his debate performance on Thursday night.

Instead, victory went to Mr. Cain, who had whipped the crowd with a fiery speech on Friday afternoon that had the crowd on their feet for extended standing ovation.

In a statement, Mr Perry congratulated Mr. Cain, but criticized Romney.

"Floridians and the voters nationwide want a candidate who is clear on the issues and speaks honestly about the future, not someone who has multiple sides of an issue and changes views every election season," said Perry . "Today's vote shows that Floridians are energized and ready to help the United States to work again."

Representative Michele Bachmann, who has been struggling to recover from a series of disappointing performances since his victory in the poll of Iowa this summer, came in last place with only 1.5 percent of the vote.

This result is certain to add to their difficulties in raising money. Minnesota congressman has had some success in raising small donations, but has not convinced many high cost to donors to help fund his campaign, according to recent reports.

The survey also was a disappointment for Jon Huntsman, Utah's former governor, who made an argument to the meeting on Friday that the meeting should elect the person who is more electable against President Obama.

Instead, people elected Mr. Cain, who is behind Romney and Mr. Perry in national polls and in surveys in early voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire.

Mr. Cain's best hope may be in Iowa, where his message can resonate with voters and religious conservatives. If he can beat Ms. Bachmann and Mr. Perry that could boost his campaign, how to win Iowa by Mike Huckabee did in 2008.

Rick Santorum, former senator from Pennsylvania, was fourth in the vote, just ahead of Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, came in sixth place.

Here is the statement of official results of the Republican Party of Florida:
