HISTORY OF THE GAME: Falcons 35, Eagles 31; Vick injured
The Falcons pulled out all the stops against Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night at the Georgia Dome.

He renewed the defense, lost consciousness and even brought white flags actor Samuel L. Jackson to whip the crowd into a frenzy of euphoria told to "Stand Up".

Quarterback Matt Ryan, tight end Tony Gonzalez and running back Michael Turner heard the pleas and helped lead the Falcons to a 35-31 victory before an audience at night nationally televised on Sunday.

Part of Ryan's battle was not to catch up on the future of Vick is back in Atlanta as starting quarterback.

"I have great respect for our guys in the locker room to handle everything on track and focused all week," said Ryan.

Ryan led the Falcons on two touchdown drives of 80 yards in the fourth quarter.

"We needed to score on every possession, as it was now or never," Gonzalez said. "We changed things, was a no-huddle offense and were able to get on your heels."

Gonzalez was simply stunning as he had seven receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Turner finished with 114 yards on 21 carries. He put the Hawks ahead for good with a three-yard touchdown with 4:48 remaining.

Ryan launched his career high with four touchdown passes for the Falcons (1-1) rebounded from a season-opening loss. The Eagles fell to 1-1.

A renewed defensive unit of Atlanta, which opened its doors with free safety James Sanders as Thomas and Kelvin Hayden Decoud the nickel back Christopher Owens, started strong and stopped the Eagles in the first two possessions.

Falcons punt returner Eric Weems broke following a 19-yard runback, setting the offense to 38 yards from the line of Philadelphia and leading to a quick opening score. Ryan threw a touchdown pass of 2 yards to Roddy White for a 7-0 lead, capping a seven-play drive.

The following Eagles found holes in the Falcons zone defense. On third and 6 of the 41, Vick connected with Jason Avant for a gain of 29 yards and Sanders in coverage.

"I felt good out with the guys, but I personally I have much work to do," said Sanders. "That was my first extended action on the field this season. I only played one quarter in the preseason."

The defense held the Eagles to a field goal after middle linebacker Curtis Lofton deflected a pass in the end zone. Alex Henery kicked a Philadelphia field goal 22 yards for a 10-7 lead with 6:46 left in the second.

The Eagles later led to his 30 to 4 yards of the Falcons line, ready to fill his example. First and goal, defensive tackle Jerry Vick Pena beaten while trying to throw the ball and dropped it. Defensive end Ray Edwards picked up the fumble and rumbled for 64 yards before being caught from behind by Philadelphia's DeSean Jackson fleet.

"I was trying to score," Edwards said. "My father God and my daughter are there in the family room and are willing to give me grief for being caught."

The Falcons had a first and 10 from the Eagles 24. After a 13-yard pass to Gonzalez, a 5-yard run 5 yards and Jacquizz Rodgers run of 2 yards Turner, Gonzalez made a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab in the back of the end zone by linebacker Jamar Chaney, recovering a 14-10 lead in Atlanta.

The half ended after an exchange of turnovers, fumbling over and Ryan Vick throwing an interception.

The opening of the second half, the Falcons could not move the ball and kicked it. Of the 40, Vick was chased by Sanders and threw an interception to Hayden. Taking advantage, the Falcons struck quickly with a 32-yard pass from Michael Turner and a touchdown pass 17 yards to Gonzalez to make it 21-10.

However, the Eagles regrouped and regained the lead with two quick strikes brands units, the second after another interception by Ryan.

Philadelphia 70-yard drive took only 1:56 on the clock, with the score on a fielder's Maclin's 36-yard screen to pull the Eagles within 21-17.

McCoy added another touchdown on a 2-yard run with: 59 left in the third quarter, increasing the Eagles lead to 31-21, but Vick came out and the time came to Atlanta.

It was time for the Falcons to change things to Ryan and his no-huddle attack and let the Eagles third-string quarterback Mike Kafka, who had to play because Vince Young, the quarterback was injured No. 2.

After the two touchdown drives and the defensive stop, the coach Falcons is miscalculated the time and had to punt to Jackson dangerous.

"That was probably a technical error, we had to run the ball," Falcons coach Mike Smith said. "Not likely, it was a technical error."

The game was not decided Lofton hit by the Hail Mary pass in the end zone.
